Things to do in Auckland include adventurous tours, watery rides and architecture and history. Local meets world in a land of water, islands, volcanoes and history. Here are ten things you have to do when you come to this city of tradition and modernity.


1. Climb the Harbour Bridge

Climb up 200 feet to an amazing view on Auckland’s city skyline and sailor filled waters. In just 90 minutes you travel through architectural history and legends. There is both an easy path for those looking for a relaxing walk, and a hard path for the fitness enthusiasts.

2. Boat Tour

Take one of the many boat tours available around Auckland. Well known ferry operators are Fullers and 360 Discoveries. The boat tours take you from island to island and offer amazing sights you will not see anywhere else.

3. Civic Theatre

Architectural things to do in Auckland should not be limited to the Sky Tower. The Civic Theatre is a beautiful construction built in 1929. An Indian influence can be found everywhere you go in this theatre.

4. Glowworm Grotto

This is a large network of caves just outside of Auckland. What makes this place special are the many glowworms that illuminate the caves from the ceiling. Photo opportunities are highlighted. You can ask for a day tour at your hotel, many tours include lunch.

5. New Zealand Maritime Museum

A huge museum which tells the historical tale of New Zealand’s past. Amazing exhibitions are spread out over 14 halls and will all show you how the maritime industry has evolved over the 8 centuries since New Zealand was first inhabited.

6. Diving & Snorkeling

Unless you can’t swim, don't leave New Zealand without having done one of these activities! New Zealand and big parts of Oceania are famous for their colorful reefs which you can dive to. Try finding Nemo as you snorkel your way around this Auckland outdoor activity. Tauranga underwater center is famous for being a great diving company.

7. One Tree Hill

A volcanic cone located in Cornwall Park. Climb upstairs for an full view of the city of Auckland. Things to do in Auckland? Volcano climbing! What is amazing is that there is exactly one tree left on this cone, hence it’s nostalgic name. There is a memorial dedicated to the Maori on top!

8. Kiwi Valley Farm Park

A great outdoor activity for the whole family! This farm is nicknamed the Farm of Old MacDonald. Over seven hectares of rural New Zealand are represented here. A great children’s outdoor activity as well, as the farm houses many goats, offers pony rides and has special shows for children. It is located about 20 minutes south of Auckland.

9. Sky Tower

The world famous Sky Tower is an architectural landmark where travelers and Aucklanders alike enjoy a view. Casino’s, bars, restaurants and even a hotel are located here!

10. Howick Historical Village

Go back to the 19th century in this historical village with actors. They make you feel like you really are living in 1840. Houses, ponds, parks and everything else is decorated in this old style.
